Out of Hours Care

Christmas is the time of year to be worry free and it should be full of surprises, but we very much hope that an emergency with your pet isn’t one of them.

Public holidays can be a very busy times for vets. The important message to remember is that if you do have an animal in real distress, you will never be without veterinary care. Please ensure you make yourself familiar with your practice opening hours during the festive period and who will be providing their Out of Hours care. Not all practices provide this at your usual clinic location so it maybe that you have to travel to another practice.

Veterinary care does cost more during Out of Hours, ensure you know your insurance policy company and the financial limits before agreeing to large estimates, you will ultimately be responsible for these charges if your insurance do not pay out. The practice may well not have access to your pets’ veterinary records, please take any medication with you that your pet is currently taking and provide as much information as possible about any medical conditions.

Out of Hours clinics run very similar to a human Accident and Emergency department, your pet will be triaged on presentation and depending on the urgency you will be seen as soon as possible, there may be a long wait during the festive period if there are pets arriving with life threatening conditions.

Just a friendly reminder that the clinical teams are dedicated to providing the best care for all the animals that visit the clinic! They truly understand how stressful this time can be for you as a pet owner. Let’s all remember to show some kindness to our staff during the festive period!
